IMPERIUM IS CHANGING THE FACE OF SECURITY FOR GOOD

I created Imperium Security for what I felt were three very important reasons.

1. I experienced too many ‘cowboys’ in the industry and a gross lack of professionalism within the ranks of many Security Companies. I discovered some Officers were unhygienic. Many lacked interest in their appearance and dress standards. There was often a lack of respect between some Officers and their more Senior Officers. Many Officers would show up late for their shift and even ‘no show’, sometimes with no explanation at all or no notification given to their Shift Manager’

Just as detrimental and in particular for Officers de-motivational, is the poor way in which Officers are treated by their employers but also the conditions Officers are required to work under. Because of low pay, Security companies hold their Security staff to ransom, often requiring them to perform static duties for 12 to 15 hours with no particulat or effective breaks. Apparently, the industry deems this ncessary because Officers can not leave their post. Yet, simply for humanitarian reasons this must stop. The solution? Employ more guards, requiring 3 x 8 hour shifts rather than 2 x 12 hour shifts, like all ‘normal’ employment situations and pay Security staff a higher ‘slice of the profits’. In other words, stop being greedy period!

2. I felt it was high time for Security Officers to be physically fit, mentally alert, diligent and actually interested in taking their chosen career seriously.

3. I felt it was high time for a push for our New Zealand government to grant all Security Officers more rights. These should include but not be limited to;

■ The right for all day and in particular night time Security Officers to carry and use pepper spray, batons and if necessary tasers, in appropriate circumstances, especially when someone’s life is physically threatened. The Officer is injured or incapacitated and is therefore unable to carry out his/her duty to protect others, or themself. The Officer is out-powered or out-numbered. Another individual or group is holding to ransom or detaining another individual or group, including but not limited to an act of terrorism. A ‘live shooter’ situation, such as a mall.

■ The right to physically deter and even restrain individuals who are known or suspected to be carrying stolen items or who have been asked to ‘stop’ from leaving the premises, for the purposes of a search. The right to appropriately pat down suspects. Also the right to physically deter and even restrain an asailant who has physically threatened staff or a member of the public or committed an act of vandalism or a lewd act, or is drunken and/or disorderly and refuses to leave the premises.
